Introduction: There are various research programs to make insulin work without being injected under the skin. One idea is that of inhaled insulin via a nasal spray or an asthma-like inhaler. The delivery of insulin this way has promise and seems more reliable than attempts to ingest insulin in pills. However, it is still only a research area and not a mainstream treatment.
