Gas exchange: The exchange of oxygen and waste gases in the lungs
Introduction: When air is breathed into the lungs, the tiny alveoli exchange gases between the air and the blood. The exchanges replenishes the supply of oxygen in red blood cells, and extracts carbon dioxide as a waste product.
