Preeclampsia is associated with symptoms such as high blood pressure, protein in the urine, swelling, sudden weight increase, headaches and vision problems. HELLP syndrome has a mortality rate as high as 25% and symptoms include high liver enzymes and a low platelet count, general lethargy (90%), tenderness in upper right portion of body (90%), abdominal pain (65%), nausea and vomiting (30%) and headaches (31%). The condition affects under 1% of pregnant women but 4-12% of pregnant women with preeclampsia. HELLP is frequently misdiagnosed.
