If high levels of sugar are common then the patient faces an increased risk of cardiovascular disease which includes stroke, peripheral artery disease and coronary heart disease. The data indicates that that people with type 2 diabetes had an 18% increased risk of cardiovascular disease for each 1% increase in glycated hemoglobin levels.
