Medical News Summary (summary of medical news story as reported by CTV.ca): New research indicates that patients with heart disease may benefit from taking blood pressure medication even if their blood pressure is normal. The study involved 2,000 heart disease patients with normal blood pressure and the results showed a decrease in plaque formation when the blood pressure was reduced by 5 millimeters. A decrease of more than 10 millimeters resulted in a decrease in size of existing plaques. This is an important finding as plaque build up is the cause of heart attacks and strokes which often result in death. Researchers believe that heart disease patients with a blood pressure over 120 should be thinking about blood pressure medication.
