Medical Dictionary: Mendelian inheritance

Mendelian inheritance: Inheritance pattern based on a single affected gene
Introduction: Mendelian inheritance is the true genetic inheritance for genetic diseases that are based on an error in one single gene. The inheritance pattern of a Mendelian disease depends on whether it is autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive, x-linked dominant, x-linked recessive, or y-linked. Also related but not truly Mendelian are some of the rarer inheritance patterns (e.g. mosaicism, anticipation, triplet repeat).
