Medical Dictionary: Inheritance pattern

Inheritance pattern: A pattern of inheritance of disease or genetic traits
Introduction: There are a variety of differing inheritance patterns. True single-gene or Mendelian genetic diseases have different patterns depending on whether they are autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive, $x-linked recessive, x-linked dominant, or one of the rarer patterns (e.g. mosaicism, anticipation, triplet repeat). Non-genetic diseases or "polygenic" diseases have multifactorial inheritance with a somewhat unclear inheritance pattern affected by many genes. Some diseases have no pattern of inheritance, such as non-genetic diseases.
