Medical Malpractice and Breast Cancer

Medical malpractice and Breast Cancer: Breast cancer is one of the top five diseases in terms of malpractice dollar awards. Most cases allege misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis from various problems with diagnosis methods or mismanagement of medical diagnostic tests. The typical problem is that the severity of a breast lump or other breast symptom is underestimated, with a delayed diagnosis or a misdiagnosis of one of the various types of benign breast disease (e.g. fibrocystic breasts). Although breast cancer is less common than other causes of breast lumps, it is obviously one of the most severe. A misdiagnosis of breast cancer can lead to a poor outcome, because more advanced breast cancer is more difficult to treat, and may be fatal.
